Norman G. "Joe" Johnson, 78, of Carlisle and formerly of Harrisburg, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services in Carlisle. He was born on Monday, July 2, 1934, in Carlisle, a son of the late Thomas R. and Naomi M. (Mills) Johnson and was widowed from Amanda (Brooks) Johnson, who died Sept. 24, 2001.

Joe was a 1952 graduate of Carlisle High School and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from the US Postal Service in Harrisburg after many years of service. He was a member of West Street A.M.E. Zion Church and the Haines-Stackfield American Legion Post 826, both of Carlisle. Joe enjoyed watching western movies and photography.

He is survived by one daughter, Theresa M. Mack of Montgomery Village, MD, one step-daughter, Linda A. Jackson of Harrisburg, one step-son, Robert Brooks of Lebanon, eight grandchildren; Evan, Sefra and Drew Mack, Tera Brown, Kali Jackson, Tracy Fisher, Robin Sweet and Keia Urruita, five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Joe was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas W. Johnson and one sister, Julia M. Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev Darwin Hython officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville on Monday, July 30, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends will meet at the national cemetery on Monday at 10:15 a.m. for the graveside service. A viewing will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to West Street A.M.E. Zion Church, 136 S. West St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
