Samuel Edward Gitt, 17, of Carlisle, died suddenly on Friday, July 22, 2011, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Reading. He was born on Wednesday, September 22, 1993, in Harrisburg, a son of Kelly A. (Kauffman) Gitt of Carlisle and Ted A. (and his wife, Tammy) Gitt of Shippensburg.

Sam was going to be a senior at Boiling Springs High School this coming school year, and participated in varsity football and track and field for the "Bubblers". He was a music enthusiast, enjoyed playing guitar and was looking forward to pursuing a career as a music teacher. Sam also enjoyed history, movies, world cultures, the Baltimore Ravens, comedy and being involved with small children and the Children’s Miracle Network. He also assisted with the Youth Flag Football program at Boiling Springs. He formerly attended St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boiling Springs and was a member of the Amnesty Club at school. Everybody knew Sam as a caring, loving person with a big heart.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Delaney E. Gitt, at home, his paternal grandmother, Gloria (Fanus) Gitt of Boiling Springs and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

A visitation will be held from 5 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at the Carlisle Evangelical Free Church, 290 Petersburg Rd., Carlisle. Memorial services will be held on Friday, at 10:00 a.m. at the Carlisle Evangelical Free Church, with Pastor Shad Baker officiating. Burial will be private. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Miracle Network, PO Box 855, Hershey, PA 17033.

Ted, Tammy & Delany,
We were so extremely saddened when we heard what had happened. We loved any time we got to spend with Sam. He would seek Jere out in a crowd (of course they were the 2 tallest there!) We always get a kick out of the stories Dylan would tell us. & still do.  Sam will be missed more than anyone can ever say. He was so sweet, polite, funny and what a handsome guy! Please know you're in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.

Jere, Gina, Jered & Jordy Shughart
Sam will be missed, I loved to hear the funny stories or repeated jokes from my girls that Sam would tell, always good ones. The South Middleton community will mourn the loss of Sam for a long time to come. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kelly and Delaney as well as the rest of Sam's family.

Scott, Nicole, Bethany and Amanda Pearson
I am really sorry for the loss of your son.  Delaney and my girls had played softball together.  There were times that Sam would be at the practices and games.  From what I remember of Sam, he was a very respectable and nice young man.  A bright and shining "star" has gone from this world, taken much too soon. But this world is only temporary, and each day brings you closer to the time when you will see Sam again. The Lord is good and He will be with you always as you wait for that time. Until then, lift him up in your heart and he will be with you.

Susan and Robert Startzel
I didn't really know Sam, but my son did. From what he told me, Sam sounded alot like his father, Ted. I've known Ted for over 20 years and my heart goes out to all of the family. When I seen Sam's sister on the news the other evening I was truly impressed with her strength and I know the family in time will pull through this painful time together. I truly believe you will be reunited again some day. You all will remain in my thoughts and prayers.
God bless all of you.

Sam was a sweet, considerate young man who always put a smile on your face. He always made sure to come talk to me when he saw me. I'll never forget the day he came up to me in the parking lot and said you probably don't remember me but I'm Ted Gitt's son. I said Sam I know who you are and didn't think you remembered me. I said I remember you from being in kindergarten with Austin. Then he asked if I wanted to sell my jeep to him. He will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to your parents, sister, relatives and friends.

We were blessed to have Sam in our lives and his friendship was truly a gift. Our first memories of Boiling Springs were new friendships, basketball & Sam. He was a brother to my son, Steven, and always approached me with a loving embrace. Although our hearts are aching because of his loss, we smile because of the fond memories we can always treasure. He will be missed terribly by all of us and we pray that God will give you strength and peace.  Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and your loved ones.

Please accept our deepest sympathy for the loss of one of our favorite Bubblers.  I am proud to say that my sons called your son their friend.  Sam was an inspiration to his classmates and teammates alike and a caring big brother to the younger players that always looked up to him.  He never took himself too serious and always made it his mission to make others laugh and enjoy themselves.  Sam will be sadly missed but we will always remember him.

May you and your family be embraced, comforted and sheltered by prayer and love from those you know and by those you do not know at this so very sad time of loss. Death, such a public/publicized event yet so personally intimate. Deaths impact has visited me and has left me with more than I thought I could possibly bare but I have been taught; that there is no loss greater than our own. A proclamation not to be envied, challenged, or wished upon any other, but one to be understood. That even through my greatest of losses, I can not imagine nor ever want to know, the loss you are personally enduring. I am so very sorry for the pain and sorrow that has entered all of your lives. I beg, ask, and plead pardon for the familiarity and the manner of my condolence but I feel we are only anonymous in introduction yet now connected in an exclusive club that empathy does not even know. There are no words to convey, now or ever, that will be a true comfort you. Please, forgive me in advance for my candidness, but "truth be told"...my very dear loving aunt,a teacher of medicine, with her grace, elegance in manner, and pose whispered in to my ear the only and most logical, rational expression that even came close to mirroring my emotions after a long tiring day of sincere, most appreciated sentiments of all well wishes...(her love still heard),she whispered, "Truth be told, it just sucks!"  She held me until I could no longer cry and until I could no longer laugh, finding comfort in the levity and the truth of her "truth be told."  My prayers for your son Sam are sincere and heart felt. May his memory be eternal with God. I pray you receive all that comforts you today and in some small way may you have moments of levity too. I remain respectfully thankful to Sam for the lives he touched, both known and unknown to him.

"God bless you and yours and all those you hold dear to heart." tq

May the many wonderful memories of Sam's life strengthen you in this time of loss.

John Lockhart
