Francis Xavier Dennin, 79, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born on Wednesday, March 9, 1932, in Harrisburg, a son of the late Aloysius B. and Anna (Shimp) Dennin.

He was a 1950 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and earned the Drill Instructors School Certification. Francis was a retired optician and had owned and operated Dennin Optical in Carlisle for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carlisle and the Old Town Run Mountain Lodge.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Catherine Dennin and Rebecca D. (and her husband, Thomas) Lebo, both of Carlisle, one brother, Edward A. Dennin of Hanover, two sisters, Claire Hensel of Mechanicsburg and Delores Ann Dennin of Harrisburg, his former wife, Jean (Shields) Dennin of Carlisle and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at St. Patrick Shrine Church, 152 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle, with Rev. Dwight D. Schlaline officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation. Private burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in St. Patrick New Catholic Cemetery, Carlisle. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.  What a wonderful Uncle he has been all my life and in the life of our children.  What a perfect example of patience, love and kindness he has shown us all of us.  You will be missed by all of us
