
Margaret I. Steele, 87, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at her home. She was born
on May 13, 1923, in Blain, a daughter of the late John Johnson and Edna (Gutshall) Johnson. She was the widow of Jesse A.
Steele, who died March 25, 1996.
Margaret retired from the Carlisle Area School District after nearly 20 years of service in the cafeteria at the Carlisle
Senior High School. She also had worked at the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot during WWII and the former Hunt’s Crystal
Co., Carlisle. Margaret was a member and past president of the North Middleton Twp. Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and a member
of North Middleton Senior Citizens. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to casinos and the beach.
She is survived by her son, William A. (and his wife, Linda) Steele of Carlisle, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren,
two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by brothers; Glen and John Johnson
and sister, Martha Burdett.
Funeral services to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011, in the Ewing Brothers
Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Bruce Henneman officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial
Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be held on Friday from 1 p.m. until time of services. Memorial contributions may be
made to American Cancer Society, 3211 N. Front Street, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110-1342.
