Helen H. (Hulvey) Alexander, 85, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2010 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born on Wednesday, January 28, 1925 in Staunton, VA and was a daughter of the late John C. and Janie (Fifer) Hulvey. She was the widow of Samuel A. Alexander, who died May 11, 2001.

Helen was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and attended Mary Baldwin College both in Staunton, VA. She was an administrative assistant for the Cumberland County Court House from 1976 until her retirement in 1990. Helen volunteered for many years at the election polls in the 4-1 precinct and was a Democratic Committee Woman. She enjoyed reading and writing poetry and embroidery but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle.

Helen is survived by two daughters; Connie E. Alexander of Carlisle and Sue Ann (and her husband, Barry) Wolf of Carlisle, her son, Steven S. (and his wife, Kay) Alexander of Carlisle, a sister, Grace Marshall of Staunton, VA, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Hulvey and a sister, Margaret Hamlett.

Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2010 in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 S. Bedford St., Carlisle. Rev. Charles A. Brophy will officiate. Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010. Those who wish to attend the burial will meet at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle at 9:15 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Avenue, Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to her church.

Mrs. Alexander was like a second Mother to me when I moved into my first apartment. There will always be a special place in my heart for her.
