Colonel (Ret) James E. Price, US Army, 81, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully
early Tuesday morning, September 14, 2010, in the Thornwald Home, Carlisle. He was born on Sunday, July 21, 1929, in Kimball,
WV, a son of the late William C. and Rachael (Godson) Price.
He graduated from Welch High School in West Virginia where he excelled
in athletics. He then attended West Virginia University on a football and ROTC scholarship and where he met his future wife,
Ernestine Virginia Brown. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from WVU and a Masters degree in Communication
Technology from Shippensburg State College in 1971.
A career Army officer with more than 29 years of service, Colonel Price
served with distinction in both Korea and Vietnam. He later attended the United States Army War College, Carlisle Barracks
and graduated with the Class of 1971. He subsequently served on the staff and faculty and finally as Chief of Staff and Secretary
of the War College until his retirement from active duty in 1981. He later worked as a civilian contractor, training the Royal
Guard of Saudi Arabia. He finished his occupational career as a Senior Planning Officer for the Pennsylvania Emergency Management
Agency in Harrisburg.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 58 years, Ernestine
V. (Brown) Price, three sons; Emmett Price (and his wife, Susan), Jimmy Price (and his wife, Andrea) and Rick Price all of
Carlisle, five grandchildren; Emmett Jr., Samantha, Alex, Kyle and Adam and one sister, Carol Clark of Bluefield, WV. He was
preceded in death by his brother, William Price and a sister, Tissie Clark.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 18,
2010, in the USAWC Memorial Chapel, Carlisle Barracks with Chaplain (Colonel) James R. Carter officiating and where military
honors will be provided by Cumberland County Honor Guard. Viewing will be held on Friday from 6 - 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers
Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. Burial with full military honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to USAWC Memorial Chapel, Attn: Price Memorial, 452 Mara
