Janet L. (Hayes) Birbeck, 84, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Tuesday,
July 27, 2010 at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle. She was born on Thursday, September 10, 1925 in Philadelphia
and was a daughter of the late Robert and Helen (Shenemon) Hayes.
Janet was a 1943 graduate of Olney High School in Philadelphia and studied
mechanical engineering at Drexel University. She retired from the Harleysville Insurance Company, Harleysville, PA. Janet
was of the Methodist faith and she was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Janet is survived by her son, Jonathan R. Birbeck, Esq., of Carlisle, her
sister, Barbara Binns of Hatfield, three granddaughters; Jennifer Smith of Duncannon, Megan Birbeck of Shermansdale and Josephine
J. Birbeck of Carlisle, a grandson, Nicholas Birbeck of Shermansdale and two nieces; Marci Binns of Philadelphia and Patti
Rosenberger of Hatfield.
Services and burial will be private. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle,
is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bosler Free Library, 158 W. High St., Carlisle, PA
17013 in the name of Janet L. Birbeck.
