Betty J. Dewalt, 86, of Newville, passed away on Monday,
July 12, 2010, in the HealthSouth Regional Specialty Hospital, Mechanicsburg. She was born on Thursday, November 15, 1923,
in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Harvey I. and Nellie M. (Steigleman) Bender.
Betty retired from the former P. R. Hoffman, Inc., Carlisle
after more than 20 years of service. She also had worked at the former Bedford Shoe Co. and at the former C. H. Masland &
Sons for 16 years, both in Carlisle. Betty was a member of Big Spring United Lutheran Church, Newville. She enjoyed doing
crossword puzzles and reading her Bible.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Amos A. Dewalt,
three daughters; Beverly A. (and husband, George) Stets of Newville, Kaye N. (and husband, Robert, Jr.) Failor of Carlisle
and Betsy J. (and husband, Morris "Butch") Kurtz of Newville, a son, Michael A. (and wife, Linda) Dewalt of Carlisle, 9 grandchildren,
18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchilden and several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by brothers;
George, Harvey and Raymond Bender and sisters; Harriet Sweger, Esther Morrison, Helen Hair, Marie McKeehan and Shirley Bender.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July
15, 2010, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Jean Keubler officiating. Burial will
be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 6:00
to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until time of the services. Memorial contributions may be
made to Big Spring United Lutheran Church, 101 Crossroad School Rd., Newville, PA 17241.
