Richard E. Hoffman, 63, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday,
June 30, 2010, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born on Monday, March 3, 1947, in Harrisburg, and was a son of
the late Raymond and Thelma Janet (Gosnell) Hoffman.
Dick was a 1965 graduate of John Harris High School in Harrisburg
and immediately entered the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He later attended the York Vo-Tech in York,
where studied HVAC. Dick retired after many years of service with the former Quaker Oats Co. in Shiremanstown. He was an avid
fisherman and hunter and loved the mountains and the outdoors.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 15 years,
Wendy C. (Bittinger) Hoffman, two step-sons; Bryan (and his wife, Liz) Baker of Ardmore and Dustin Koser of Carlisle, two
brothers; Raymond (and his wife, Carol) Hoffman of Lewisberry and Charles (and his wife, Pat) Hoffman of Townsend, DE, a sister,
Elizabeth (and her husband, Larry) Eichelberger of New Cumberland, a brother-in-law, Barry (and his wife, Deb) Bittinger of
Carlisle and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hoffman.
Funeral services to celebrate Dick’s life will be held
at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2010, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Lewis Splain
officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Ashland Cemetery, Carlisle. A viewing
will be held from 1 p.m. until time of the services on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American
Cancer Society, 3211 N. Front Street, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110-1342.
