Paul H. "Pap" Shughart, 85, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at his home with his loving daughters by his side. He was born on Wednesday, November 26, 1924, in Carlisle, a son of the late Fred H. and Ruth (Miller) Shughart. He was married for more than 60 years to the late Evelyn W. "Gray" (Garman) Shughart, who died May 30, 2007.

Paul was a farmer for many years in Lower Frankford Twp. and also retired from Agway Inc. in Carlisle after 25 years of service. After retiring from Agway, Paul helped his sister and nephews at The Country Butcher Shop, Carlisle. He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Church in Carlisle and was a life member of the West Pennsboro Twp. Fire Co., where he volunteered much of his time. Paul was devoted to his family and friends and always gave a helping hand where needed.

He is survived by his four daughters; Kathryn Miller (and her husband, Philip J., III) Huntzinger of Carlisle, Shirley (and her husband, George) Young of Carlisle, Arlene (and her husband, John) Jennings of Carlisle and Paula Grumling (and her husband, Robert) Fletcher of Norco, CA, two brothers; Herbert Shughart of Blain and Larry Shughart of Carlisle, three sisters; Anna Myers of Dillsburg, Phyllis Rynard of Carlisle and Dorothy Wolfe of Shippensburg, seven grandchildren; Natalie Singer, Nathan Miller, Wendy Young, Bridget Minich, Amanda Cummings, Evan Grumling and Jared Grumling, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Paul was also preceded in death by a brother, R. Fred Shughart, a sister, Mary Finkenbinder and a son-in-law, Darrell Miller. Paul will also be greatly missed by his faithful Boston terrier, Sam.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2010, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held on Friday from 6 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bethany Evangelical Church, 101 Petersburg Rd., Carlisle, PA 17013 or to Celtic Healthcare of Carlisle, Suite 100, 220 Wilson St., Carlisle.
