Melvin C. "Mick" Mixell, Jr., 63, of Newville, peacefully passed away with
family by his side on Sunday, May 23, 2010, in his home. He was born on Thursday, March 6, 1947, in Carlisle, son of the late
Melvin C. Mixell, Sr. and Ethel R. (Highlands) Mixell.
Mick was a 1965 graduate of Big Spring High School. He retired in 1998
from PennDoT after 30 years of service in highway maintenance. After retiring from PennDoT, Mick owned and operated M. C.
Mixell Trucking for several years. He was a member of Big Spring Fish & Game Assoc., Carlisle Eagles Aerie 1299, Chambersburg
Moose Lodge, Shippensburg American Legion and V.F.W. Posts, National Rifle Assoc., where he volunteered for 10 years with
the Youth Hunter Education Challenge and a life member of the Newville American Legion. Mick was also a member of the South
Central Outdoors for Youth for nearly 15 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Darlene J. (Bouder)
Mixell, a daughter, Melanie L. Mixell (and her fianc é,
Thomas Fernengel) of Newville, two sons; Melvin C. "Mike" Mixell, III of Plainfield and Matthew J. Mixell (and his fiancé, Teri Troy)
of Newville, a sister, Deborah C. Kennedy of Carlisle, six grandchildren; Marlee Mixell, Asher Bower, Logan Bower and Sequoia,
T. J. and Mary Fernengel, one great-grandson, his mother-in-law, Jean Bouder of Newville and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27,
2010, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Jeff Kettering officiating. Burial
will be at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until time of services. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to N.R.A. - Y.H.E.C., C/O Jan Taylor, Hunter Services Dept., 11250 Waples Mill
Rd., Fairfax, VA 22030.

father. We have very fond memories of our wild archery shooting days with Mick, you and the boys at the BSFG for many

I have known "Mick" for many years and considered him
