Katherine Barrick, 91, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010, in the Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. She was born on Sunday, July 28, 1918, in Cumberland County, a daughter of the late John O. and Bessie (Eckard) Thumma and the widow of Eber A. Barrick, who died April 6, 2006.

Katherine retired from the former J. C. Wentzel & Sons, where she was the head cook at the former Kinney Shoe Corporation’s Anderson Plant cafeteria, Carlisle. She also worked the family farm with her late husband. Katherine attended the Bethel Assembly of God Church, Carlisle. She was preceded in death by two brothers; John and Robert Thumma.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Shirley P. (and her husband, Melvin) Fraker of Carlisle, a brother, Clark Thumma of Carlisle, two grandchildren; Kay P. (and her husband, Timothy) Marpoe and Eber E. (and his wife, Judy) Fraker, all of Newville and several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Chuck Kish officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
