Lela Taylor Barton, 85, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, March 27, 2010, in the Chapel Pointe Health Center in Carlisle. She was born on Friday, November 21, 1924, in Woodbine, KY, a daughter of the late Elbert and Laura (Nicholson) Taylor and the widow of John L. Barton, who died March 28, 1991. She and John were former residents of Berea, KY, Lexington, KY and Vista, CA.

Lela graduated from Berea College, where she earned her bachelors degree in Home Economics. She was a loving mother and homemaker, and had been a real estate agent in Berea for many years. Lela was active in several community organizations and the Women’s Club.

She is survived by three daughters; Ann (and her husband, Don) Franklin, COL (Ret) Ruth (and her husband, LTC (Ret) Edward J. "Woodie") Collins, Jr. both of Carlisle and Karen Barton of Lexington, KY, one son, Mark (and his wife, Cookie) Barton of Scott Depot, WV, a grandson, Sean E. Collins of Carlisle, two sisters-in-law, Martha Alsip of El Centro, CA and Martha Barton of Richmond, KY and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2010, in the Henry Chapel at Chapel Pointe, 770 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Walt Frankenberry officiating. A viewing will be on Monday from 3 p.m. until time of the services. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery in Berea, KY. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Pointe at Carlisle, 770 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, PA 17013 or Hospice of Central PA, P.O. Box 266, Enola, PA 17025 or to Berea College, 101 Chestnut St., Berea, KY 40403-9952.

Dear Ann & Ruth & family,
I am so sorry to hear of lela's passing. I had known Lela for over 4 years, and we had many special moments together. She was truely a very sweet person, with a wonderful, loving family. god bless you all.
