Martin L. "Skip" Bernheimer, Jr., 38, of Carlisle, passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. He was born on Sunday, November 7, 1971, in Orlando, FL and was a son of Linda L. (Schmuck) Bernheimer of Carlisle and the late Martin L. Bernheimer, Sr.

Skip was a 1989 graduate of Carlisle High School. He worked as an equipment operator for over five years for the PA Department of Transportation in Adams County. He had also worked as a part-time firefighter with the former Cumberland-Goodwill Fire & Rescue, Carlisle, and was currently a member of Carlisle Fire & Rescue. He was a member of and an E. M. T. volunteer for Cumberland-Goodwill E.M.S. and was a former member of Union Fire Co., Carlisle. He attended the Carlisle First Church of God.

Skip was loved and will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 11 years, Jamie L. (Hoffman) Bernheimer, his son, Nathaniel L., at home, his mother, Linda L. (Schmuck) Bernheimer, Carlisle, two brothers; Mark D. Bernheimer of Carlisle and Mitchell R. Bernheimer of Gettysburg, two sisters, April A. Yeager of Chambersburg and Wendy L. Bernheimer of Pasadena, MD, his maternal grandfather, Arlington Schmuck of Newville and ten nieces and nephews. Skip was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Bernheimer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Pastor Charles Kish officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery with Fireman’s Honors. Viewing will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010 and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nathaniel Bernheimer Fund, c/o Members 1st Federal Credit Union, 1711 Spring Rd., Carlisle, PA 17013.
