Evelyn M. Evans, 71, of Carlisle, passed away with family
by her side on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 in her home. She was born on Friday, October 7, 1938, in Chambersburg, a daughter of
the late Clarence E. and Evelyn (Lawrence) Gsell, and the widow of Kenneth L. "Big Red" Evans, Sr., who died Nov. 15, 1999.
Evelyn was a loving mother and homemaker. She earned her
G.E.D. and worked most recently at the Carlisle Barracks AAFES Post Exchange, where she was a sales associate for more than
nine years. She was an avid collector of family heirlooms and antiques. She also enjoyed listening to various types of music,
especially Soul and Rock & Roll.
She is survived by two sons; Kenneth L. (and his wife, Judy)
Evans, Jr., Carlisle and MSgt. James E. Evans, USAF, currently stationed at RAF Lakenheath, England, a daughter, Laurie A.
Evans of Carlisle, a devoted friend, Sue Curran of Carlisle, four grandchildren; Michelle Young, Danielle Evans, April French
and Kenny Evans, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was also preceded in death by three brothers;
Richard, Lester and Clarence Gsell, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March
15, 2010 in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Tim Wheeler officiating. Burial will
be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests
memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 3211 N. Front St., Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110-1342.
