Betty Mae Austin, 86, of Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle, died Thursday, February 4, 2010, in Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born on Wednesday, July 25, 1923, in New York City, NY and was a daughter of the late Jules and Nellie (Rauth) Fink and the widow of Edgar F. Austin, who died October 24, 1993.

Betty graduated from Pratt Institute in New York City with a four year degree in interior design. She was a librarian with the Oceanside Library in Oceanside, NY. Betty was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Carlisle, and was preceded in death by one son, Robert C. Austin, who died in 1975.

She is survived by one son, Richard C. (and his wife, Joan) Austin of Putnam Station, NY, a brother, Kenneth Fink of Delran, NJ, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead, NY. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements.

Each Sunday that we both were at St. John's church I was so happy to see Betty, always in an aisle seat toward the front; she always had a lovely smile when I greeted her. She seemed like a gracious but reserved lady. I am glad she was able to be independent until her final year. I hope you have good memories to enjoy, and that her soul rests in peace.
