
Ethel H. Hoover, 87, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday,
January 24, 2010, in the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle. She was born on Friday, December 15, 1922, in Newville, and
was a daughter of the late Ira A. and Daisey E. (McMullen) Hockensmith and the widow of Eugene A. Hoover, who died May 15,
1996.
Ethel attended the former Newville High School and had worked
at the former Reeves-Hoffman, Inc. in Carlisle for many years. She retired in 1985 after twelve years of service with the
former Piezo Crystal Plant also in Carlisle. She was a member of the Big Spring Heights Church of God, Newville and where
she volunteered for the Card Ministry. Ethel enjoyed flowers, gardening and painting ceramics. She was preceded in death by
one son, David E. Helm, five brothers; Chester, Leroy, Robert, James and Thomas Hockensmith and one sister; Esther Lehman.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra E. (and her husband,
Ron) Stuck of Carlisle, one son, Timothy A. (and his wife, Deb) Hurley of Phoenix, AZ, three brothers; Albert, O. Wayne and
D. Bruce Hockensmith all of Newville, three grandchildren; Connie Barrick of CO, Tanya (and her husband, Jon) Tourjee of CO
and D. Brian Helm of Carlisle, two step-grandchildren; Rhonda (and her husband, Sigmond) Bauriedl of East Berlin and Amber
R. Snyder of AZ, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010,
at 10:30 a.m. in the Big Spring Heights Church of God, 10 Mt. Rock Rd. Newville, with Pastor Jesse Duncan & Pastor Tim
Redmond officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m.
until time of services at the church. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements.
