
Ethel R. Mixell, 86, of Newville and also formerly of Carlisle,
passed away on Friday, January 8, 2010, in the Green Ridge Village, Newville. She was born on Sunday, July 1, 1923, in Newville,
and was a daughter of the late Robert Highlands and Monnie (Graham) Highlands Stoudt and the widow of Melvin C. Mixell, Sr.,
who died Sept. 5, 2000.
Ethel was a homemaker, who enjoyed spending time with her
great-grandchildren and treasured the many evenings she would sit on her porch at the College Park Apartments with all the
girls. Ethel formerly attended the Newville Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Edith Kuntz
and Marian Walker and two brothers; Paul and Robert Highlands.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah C. Kennedy of Carlisle,
one son, Melvin C. "Mick" Mixell, Jr. of Newville, a sister, Jean Stoudt of Carlisle, a brother, Kenneth Stoudt also of Carlisle,
five grandchildren; Stacey (Barrick) Diehl, Amanda (and her husband, Daniel) Doyle, Melanie Mixell, Matt Mixell and Mike Mixell,
four great-grandchildren; Adam, Cohen and Avery Doyle and Marlee Mixell, her best friend, Shirley Hess and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2010
at 3:00 p.m. in the Brethren in Christ Church, 1155 Walnut Bottom Rd., Carlisle, with Pastor Jerry Clonch officiating. Burial
will be private. A viewing will be held on Monday from 6 - 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St.,
Carlisle.
