Jose Luis Silva, MD,
95, of Carlisle, PA, formerly of Sandown, NH, passed away Thursday November 29, 2018, at his residence following a period
of declining health. Jose was born June 4, 1923 in Cienfuegos, Cuba and was the second son of the late Juan and Maria (Ferrer)
Silva. He attended Malvern Preparatory School, near Philadelphia, PA, for high school. He received his bachelor’s degree
from Villanova University and his Medical degree from George Washington University Medical School. Dr. Silva resided in Hampstead,
NH for over 30 years prior to relocating to Sandown, NH in 2008 and then to Carlisle in 2016 to be close to family.
Dr. Silva was a medical doctor at Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence,
MA for over 30 years and Director of the Emergency Department for 17 years. He was also City Physician for the City of Lawrence
for a period of time. He worked for many years with the Mass. Dept. of Public Health, in the Bureau of Indian Affairs and
also hosted a Spanish Talk Radio program in Lawrence. He was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in E. Derry,
NH. His family, his faith and his work as a medical doctor were his main interests.
Jose is survived by two sons
and their wives, John F. and Carole Silva of Methuen, MA and Christopher E. and Grace Silva of Carlisle, PA, four grandchildren,
Amanda and Janet Silva, Andrew Jenness and Joseph James “JJ” Silva, and two brothers, Freddy and Nino Silva.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Eleanor (Kuwaski) Silva in 2009, his son Andrew J. Silva in 2016 and siblings
Juan, Luis, Tony, Maria Teresa, Anna Maria, Maria Andrea and Maria Amalia.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday,
December 6, 2018 from 5 to 8 pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A Mass of Christian
burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 7th at 10:00 am in Holy Cross Parish, 187 Hampstead Rd., E. Derry. The burial
will follow in West Hampstead Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Lawrence General Hospital, 1 General St, Lawrence,
MA 01841. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle handled the local arrangements.
