
Evelyn Mae Varner, 84, of Carlisle, passed
away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle. She was born on December 18, 1933
in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late Emory C. and Elmira (Failor) McDilda, Sr. Mae graduated in 1952 from Boiling Springs High School. She
retired from Big Spring School District after 13 years of service in the cafeteria at the former Jacksonville Elementary School
in Walnut Bottom. Mae also worked several years with the former Anthony’s Furniture Store and the
Market Square Wholesale Shows, both of Newville. Mae was a longtime member of Hays Grove United Methodist
Church where she was involved with the Missionary and Pollyanna Club. Mae enjoyed doing crafts and traveling.
She and her husband had visited all 50 states. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Leroy E. Varner, three
sons; Gregory A. (wife of 31 years, Linda) Varner of Carlisle, Kim E. Varner (companion of 8 years, Candy Barndollar) of Chambersburg
and Christopher L. (wife of 38 years, Kathryn) Varner of Shippensburg, one sister, Deanna (husband, Jack) Rose of Boiling
Springs, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by one sister, Flordella Foote and one brother, Emory C. McDilda, Jr. A viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in
the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Pastor Barbara A. Servello officiating. Burial
will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Memorial contributions may be made to her church
