Marguerite
“Peggy” Eleanor Foreman Grove, 96, of Carlisle passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 at home with family by her
side. She was born on January 22, 1922 in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late Robert J. Foreman and Marguerite (Smith)
Foreman and was the widow of Robert Leonard Grove, who passed away on July 15, 1996.
Peggy was
a proud member and drummer in the Boiling Springs High School Marching Band. She was the manager for many years of the
lady’s apparel store The Hub in Carlisle. Peggy then worked for Schleisner’s ladies apparel store in
Camp Hill and retired from Schleisner’s Strawberry Square store in Harrisburg.
Peggy
was a member of many civic organizations. She was a member and served as Vice President of the French Huguenot Society of
Pennsylvania, Jean Ribault Chapter. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Cumberland County Chapter,
serving in many chapter capacities for 65 years. Peggy was a member of the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Penn’s
Grant Chapter. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists, serving two three-year terms as Chapter Regent.
She was a member of the Mareen Duvall Society of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. She was also a member of the United Daughters
of the Confederacy, Fitzhugh Lee Chapter, in Frederick, Maryland. Peggy was a former member of the Carlisle Garden Club and
the Cumberland County Historical Society where she was named 1998’s Volunteer of the Year. She spent many summers working
on the gardens at Two Mile House re-designing areas for new plantings and garden events. She was a member of First United
Church of Christ, Carlisle.
Peggy
is survived by a son, Robert L. Grove of Boiling Springs and his children; Keith Grove, Ralph and Rick Thomas and Robin Sollenberger;
two daughters; Patresa S. (husband, Terrence) Seaford of Carlisle and their children; Aaron and Tirzah Seaford and Javette
D. (husband, James) Kerr of Newville and their children; Jeremy Jumper and Brianne Shirk, eight great grandchildren, one great-great-grandson
and several nieces and nephews. Peggy was preceded in death by two sisters; Dorothy Still and Nancy Hough and one daughter-in-law,
Mary Lou Grove.
A visitation
will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018 followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Church
of Christ, 30 N. Pitt St., Carlisle with Rev. Chris Schwab officiating. A time of fellowship will be held at the church
following the service. Interment will be private at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Churchtown. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home is handling
