
George J.
Handshew, Jr., 90, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at his home. He was born on July
5, 1927 in Carlisle and was a son of the late George J. Handshew, Sr. and Esther (Young) Handshew. George
retired from the former Kinney Shoe Corp., Carlisle. He was a US Army veteran and served during the Korean
War. George was a member of the South Mountain American Legion, also the V.F.W., White Circle, Eagles and
the Moose, all of Carlisle. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Elva J. (Mellott) Handshew,
one son, Terry L. Handshew of Mechanicsburg, one daughter, Tina L. Mohle of Carlisle, one grandson, Brandon Mohle, one brother,
Kenneth Lee Handshew, one sister-in-law, Jackie Handshew and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded
in death by one brother, Harold Handshew and one sister, Mary Crary.
Private graveside services will be held at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Ewing
Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements. www.Since1853.com.
