Richard “Dick” B.  Minich, 82, of Carlisle, beloved husband and father, went to be with the love of his life Opal in heaven on Sunday, May 20, 2018.  He passed away peacefully in his sleep at home.  He was born on Dec. 7, 1935, in Carlisle a son of the late Raymond E. Minich and Sarah R. (Calaman) Minich and was married for 53 years to the late Opal J. (Gayman) Minich, who passed away on July 22, 2010.

Dick graduated from Carlisle High School.  He was a member of Big Spring Heights Church of God in Newville, where he volunteered frequently in many capacities.  He loved and embraced life, always smiling, which earned him the nickname “Happy Pappy”.  His kindness and sense of humor touched many.  Dick worked for 32 years at the former C. H. Masland and Sons.  Dick also worked as a “Milkman” with the former Kruger’s Dairy in Carlisle.  He was an avid golfer and enjoyed going to Gold’s Gym several days a week.  He loved to “eat out” with his family and friends.  He was very creative and enjoyed fixing and building things.  He had the shiniest car in town and always took pride in his vehicles, especially his beloved Jeeps.  He and his sons spent many hours plowing snow and horsing around in his Jeeps.  He raced go-carts with his brothers in Carlisle for many years.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.  One of Dick’s biggest enjoyments was spending time with his three beloved granddaughters.

Dick is survived by his loving children, a daughter, Sharon L. (and her husband, Roger) Fry of Camp Hill and a son, Rickey L. (and his wife Jody Sharek) Minich of Carlisle, one brother; Raymond Minich of Hershey, two sisters; Joyce Snyder of Carlisle, Carolyn Diehl of Carlisle; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Minich of Carlisle and Sue Minich of Carlisle, three beloved grandchildren; Ashley Fry, Jaime Fry and Kelsi Minich and many nieces and nephews.  Dick was preceded in death by one son, David B. Minich.

Memorial services to celebrate Dick’s life will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev. Chris Faylor and Rev. Tim Redmond officiating.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.  Private burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens.  Memorial contributions in Dick’s name may be made to Big Spring Heights Church of God, 8 Mt. Rock Rd., Newville, PA  17241.  Please visit www.Since1853.com to send condolences.

I had the opportunity to play golf with Dick a few times the past couple of years in our golf league and always enjoyed his positive spirit and his perspective on where golf fits into life. He offered to pray for my son after an accident left him in need of surgery. He was a really good man! I along with many others will miss him very much.

Over the last 18 months that I joined Gold's Gym, I had become a "gym friend" with Dick.  I just heard today about his passing and am deeply saddened.  I send my sincere sympathies to your whole family.  He certainly was a highlight of my early morning workouts; he was always in a good mood and encouraging.  He had shared about how much he loved his wife and still missed her, so I know that he is with her now and full of joy.  I'm sure you will greatly miss him here on earth, and I pray God will comfort your hearts.
