Joyce A. Chestnut, 77, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the UPMC-Carlisle.  She was born on September 12, 1940 in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late Lee C. and Helen M. (Mellinger) Deihl.

Joyce was a loving homemaker and worked for several companies in the Carlisle area.  She was the office manager and secretary for her husband’s business, Donald P. Chestnut Excavating for 27 years.  Joyce retired from the former G. S. Electric Co. and was previously employed with the former Kinney Shoe Co. and Erie Frequency all of Carlisle.  After retirement, Joyce worked several years in the cafeteria at the Oak Flat Elementary School, Newville.  She was a faithful member of Opossum Hill Union Church and a life member and former President of the Upper Frankford Twp. Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.  Joyce enjoyed canning, cooking, baking, babysitting and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Donald P. Chestnut, three daughters; Debra A. (husband, Mark) Bathavic of Carlisle, Wanda D. (husband, Mike) Wiser of Carlisle and Donna K. Rinehart of Jacksonville, FL, one brother, Ronald L. Deihl of Carlisle, two sisters; Margaret A. Darhower and Joan E. Splain both of Carlisle, grandchildren; Brooke (Jeff) Rice, Kristen (Mike) Sturm, Bobbi (Brad) Zellefrow, Erin (Scott) Lehman, Drew (Laure’) Monismith, Brittany Rinehart, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Joyce was preceded in death by one brother, Vance K. Deihl and two sisters; Mary Jane Grimes and Kathryn M. Gitt.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Pastor Randy Zook officiating.  Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.  Viewings will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the funeral home and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the services.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Opossum Hill Union Church, 601 Opossum Lake Rd., Carlisle, PA 17015 or to McClure’s Gap Church of God, 130 Church of God Rd., Newville, PA 17241.  www.Since1853.com.

I will always remember the time I spent at your house growing up and the old wringer washer you had. I'll also remember the effort you made to come visit my mom when she was in the hospital. Joyce will be missed by family and friends.  She baked my wedding cake 52 yrs. ago. When we were young we picked cheeries together and worked together at the shoe factory. Our sympathy is with the family.

Sorry to hear about the passing of Joyce.  The Deihl girls I went to school with.  Debbie your mom in a better place with God.  She earned her angel wings with great LOVE while on earth.
