Margaret D. Humphrey, 77, of Enola, PA and formerly of Houston, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.  She was born on September 3, 1940 in Houston, Texas to the late Charles W. Doughtie and Helen M. Toney. Being a sixth generation Texan, Margaret just recently left her home to be closer to her children in Pennsylvania.

Margaret graduated from Brownsville High School in Brownsville, TX with the class of 1957. While pursuing her bachelor’s degree in accounting at The University of Texas at Austin, she became a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She worked as an accountant for many firms in Houston, including W.S. Atkins and Russell Orr. After retirement, Margaret continued contract work in accounting and tax preparation. She was a member of Christ Church Cathedral in Houston and was an avid animal lover, especially cats.  Margaret volunteered on local Democratic campaigns and was a staunch supporter of Bernie Sanders.

She is survived by one daughter, Rachelle E. Cassell of Gardners, one son, Russell Rentfro III of Enola, PA one brother, Charles Doughtie of Hutto, TX, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Margaret’s children will be returning her home to Houston. A private service will be held at that time. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home in Carlisle, PA is in charge of the arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made in Margaret’s name to a local animal shelter of your choice.  Please visit www.Since1853.com to send condolences.

I was a young child when I knew Margaret, her brother Charles, and their parents in Richards, Texas. Margaret and Charles took piano lessons from my mother. They lived next to the Richards Baptist Church. I can see their house today.
I was interested to see Margaret went to UT in Austin and majored in accounting - which is exactly what I did 8 years later.
Your picture of her is beautiful and looks just like the beautiful young girl I knew.
I am sending sympathy to her family and friends.
