David L. Peiper, 81, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at UPMC-Pinnacle Carlisle.  He was born on January 26, 1936 in Carlisle and was the son of the late J. William Peiper and Mary Cecilia (Gladhill) Peiper.

David was a 1953 graduate of Carlisle High School.  After high school, he served for a short time in the US Marine Corps Reserves.  For nearly 30 years, David co-owned and operated the family automotive business, "Peiper Motors", which in the early days sold Hudson cars in Carlisle.  Before retirement, he also served as a Corrections Officer at Cumberland County Prison.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, as well as a member of the Elks, Eagles, White Circle, and Knights of Columbus, all of Carlisle.  David was a life-long aficionado of Hudson motor cars and immensely enjoyed following the NASCAR circuit and his favorite Pittsburgh Steelers football team.  He also took up flying as a hobby and held his private pilot license.  His biggest enjoyment in life however always came from spending time with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 64 years, Shirley A. (Martin) Peiper; two sons, Bradley L. (wife, Marina) Peiper of West Chester and Gregory D. (wife, Kay Turner) Peiper of Herndon, VA; one brother, Habard “Hap” Peiper of Chambersburg; two sisters, Julia Moxley of Cockeysville, MD and Virginia Lebo of Carlisle; five grandchildren; Joel, Bryce and Wyatt Peiper and Jaime Koch and Matthew Lewis; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey W. Peiper; one sister, Wilma Peiper; and one great-grandson, Nathaniel Peiper.

A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle, with The Very Rev. William C. Forrey officiating.  Immediately following the service, a time of fellowship will be held in the activity center at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Dr, Carlisle.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 152 E. Pomfret St, Carlisle, PA 17013.  www.Since1853.com
