Roger L. McElwee, 59, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.  He was born on September 7, 1958 in Carlisle, and was a son of the late Thomas H. McElwee, Sr. and Ruth Arlene (Whistler) McElwee.

Roger graduated from Big Spring High School in Newville with the Class of 1977.  Even though Roger battled diabetes from a very early age and was blind by the age of 30, he excelled in woodworking and made and sold many of his pieces in the Carlisle area.

He is survived by one brother, Thomas H. (wife, Becky) McElwee, Jr., one sister, Joyce A. (husband, John) Anderson, both of Newville and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Melissa Marie Rohrer.

A viewing will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 followed by funeral services at 7:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle, with Rev. Harold Yeager officiating.  Burial will be private.  Memorial contributions may be made to Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, 555 Gettysburg Pike, Suite A300, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Visit www.Since1853.com to send condolences.
