Arlene L. Adams, 91, died Thursday, December 28, at Cala J Farm,
Carlisle, PA. She was the widow of James K. Adams, who predeceased her in 2014 after 66 years of marriage. She was the second
of three children born to George W. and Sara Kretzing Fuller.
Born in Perry County,
PA, Arlene graduated from Landisburg High School and earned her Registered Nurse certification in the United States Cadet
Nurse Corps during World War II. She applied her skills at Carlisle and Harrisburg area hospitals and Pennsylvania Blue Shield,
and assisted in the establishment of Dauphin Distribution Services.
As
a resident of Jupiter, Florida, Arlene was an active support to her husband in his community, yacht club, and antique car
endeavors. She was an avid reader, a lifelong pinochle and bridge enthusiast, and enjoyed family get-togethers and socializing
with friends.
She was a co-founder and active participant in the James K. and Arlene
L. Adams Scholarship Fund, which has provided tuition assistance to nearly 100 students.
Arlene
is survived by son, James K. Adams II (Jane), and daughter, Kathy Purcell, DVM (Ken), a sister, Faye Johnson, grandchildren;
James K. Adams III, Lindsay Adams, John Adams, Ali Purcell, and Caroline Purcell, and great-grandchildren; Jude Adams, Caleb
Adams, William Adams, and Laleh Almassian, and multiple nieces and a nephew.
