Charles E. Brownawell, 80, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 in the Rosewood Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Pottsville.  He was born on August 6, 1937 in Shermansdale, and was a son of the late Paul and Mary (Foster) Brownawell.

Charles was a retired big-rig truck driver and was last employed with Lurgan Leasing.  He enjoyed attending public sales and auctions.

He is survived by one son, John J. Brownawell, Sr. of Shippensburg, two daughters; MS1 (Ret) Brenda Brownawell, USN and her partner, Jill Fidler of Williamsport and Lisa Kay Small and her husband, Tom of Newville, three grandchildren; Kristina Lynn Boggs of Carlisle and Amy Renee Simpson and John J. Brownawell, Jr., both of Shippensburg, four great-grandchildren; Raylan, Ben, Vincent and Owen and one sister, Barb Swarner of Shermansdale.  Charles was preceded in death by one brother, Norman “Sonny” Brownawell.

A viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle, with Rev. Walt Frankenberry officiating.  Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Visit www.Since1853.com to send condolences.
