
Donald E. Grell, Sr., 88, of Carlisle, passed away
on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg. He was born on
May 6, 1929 in Lykens, and was a son of the late George D. and Edith (Horley) Grell. He was married to
the late Bernice M. (Linn) Grell, who passed away on September 19, 2002. Don was a 1947 graduate
of William Penn High School in Harrisburg. He retired from the former American Can Company in Lemoyne where
he was a machinist for 33 years. Don and his late wife also owned and operated the Carlisle Campground
for many years. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle and was an avid Boston
Red Sox fan, loved his dogs and enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by three sons; Donald E. Grell, II
and his wife, Caryn Carr of Carlisle, Glen R. Grell and his wife, Elaine and Ted L. Grell and his wife, Rose, both of Mechanicsburg,
one grandson, Cory Grell and one granddaughter, Alyssa Grell. Don was preceded in death by a half-brother,
Robert Grell. A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in
the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle, with Rev. Lisa M. Leber officiating. Burial
will be in Ashland Cemetery, Carlisle. Memorial contributions may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran
