George Robert “Hodgie” Hodge, 84, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.  He was born on April 14, 1933 in Carlisle, and was a son of the late Elmer E. and Mary C. (Spradley) Hodge.

Hodgie retired from Frog Switch Manufacturing in Carlisle after 30 years of service.  He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Carlisle.  He loved to watch sports and was an avid Washington Redskin fan.

He is survived by two sons; Milton Stackfield of Shippensburg and Marshall Stackfield of San Clemente, CA, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by six brothers; Elmer, Shirley, Payton, Jake, Mervin and Paul Hodge and four sisters; Mary Jane Lee, Eleanor Easter, Roberta Pacheco and Elizabeth Goens.

A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle, with Rev. Robert L. Woodall officiating.  Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.  Memorials may be made to Bethel A.M.E. Church, 131 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle.  www.Since1853.com.

To the family. You have my deepest sympathy. He was a very loving and fun guy.  Im quite sure he will be eating cakes and pies in heaven. I will miss him sitting in the park

He was a kind & gentle man & my neighbor for many years. I will never forget how nervous he was driving me to Harrisburg Hospital from Carlisle because I didn't trust the hospital after my grandfather had died earlier in the year. He kept saying u sure you don't want to go back! He was so friendly,giving, and helpful. He will always hold a special place in my heart. My condolences to the family for your loss he will truly be missed.
