Ailene H. Moyer, 96, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Thornwald Home, Carlisle.  She was born on September 7, 1920 in Rockwood, and was a daughter of the late David E. and Lena M. (Cook) Hartzell.  She was the widow of Charles H. Moyer, who died September 27, 1991.

Ailene graduated in 1938 from Somerset High School.  She was a loving homemaker and had worked for Georges’ Flowers and the former “K’ Street Motors, both of Carlisle.  She was a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church and the former First United Methodist Church, Carlisle.


She is survived by two sons; David H. (Donna) Moyer and Douglas W. (Sue) Moyer, both of Carlisle, one sister, Mary Jane Stutzman of Somerset, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by one son, Robert C. Moyer and two brothers; Dan and Arthur Hartzell.

A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Jim VanZandt officiating.  Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 S. I'm so sorry for the loss of this wonderful lady..Andrea is like my daughter as we bonded working together at Thornwald and getting to take care of her Nan sometimes, and check on her everytime I worked was a privilege...May God bless you all through this rough time...
