Claudia Lavata Morton, affectionately known
as "CC" or "Little Sis" was born on October 17, 1948 in Saint Augustine, Florida. One of three children
of the late Minnie Thompson and Edward Richardson, Claudia departed from this life on July 4, 2017.
She received
her education in the public schools of St. Augustine and continued her higher education at Wilberforce University where she
received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science. She then began her lifelong commitment to help others as an
educated professional. She had a loving and caring heart and was well respected by all those who knew and loved her.
She was a very loyal and peaceful person. For many years, she worked as the Director of OIC. Being the concerned
person she was, she was dedicated to her work, training the youth of the city and her services were gratefully accepted and
appreciated.
She is survived by her siblings; one brother, Playthell Benjamin, whom she loved very much and loved
to tease, her older sister, Melba Conrad, whom she also had a loving relationship with and loved to call her "bossy",
her nieces; Sandra and Makada, nephews; Samori and Kelvin and her devoted life partner of many years, Lonnie Morton and a
host of relatives and friends.
The legacy of love, guidance and inspiration she leaves to her family provides much
comfort during this time.
A private funeral service was held in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, with
Rev. Walter Reed officiating.
