
Betty Lois Fickes, 93, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at her daughter’s home in
Carlisle. She was born on April 26, 1924 in Chambersburg, and was a daughter of the late Amos and Mary
Elizabeth (Hinkle) McLaughlin. She was the widow of William G. Fickes, who passed away on July 25, 2002. Betty
was a loving homemaker and retired from Thornwald Home in Carlisle after many years of service. Betty was
a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Carlisle. She and her late husband enjoyed traveling.
Betty also enjoyed making crafts, socializing with her circle of friends, and spending time with and taking care of
her great-grandsons. Betty was cherished by her family and friends and will be deeply missed. She
is survived by her devoted daughter, Linda A. (and her husband, George) Jumper of Carlisle, one sister, Elsie Watts of Lykens,
one daughter-in-law, Pauline Fickes of Newville, three grandchildren; Christina Hadley, Courtney Lucente and William Fickes,
one step-granddaughter, Brenda Miller, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased
by one son, John A. Fickes, one grandson, Benjamin Fickes, two brothers; Thomas and Amos McLaughlin and three sisters; Ruth
Forrester, Kathryn Yeager and Janet McLaughlin.
A viewing will begin at 12:00 noon on
Monday, June 19, 2017 followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle,
with Pastor Chuck Kish and Pastor Jonathan Baker officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial
Gardens, Carlisle. Memorial contributions may be made to her church, 1412 Holly Pike, Carlisle, PA 17015.
