James R. Washington, Jr., 65, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, May 12,
2017 at his home with loving family by his side. He was born on December 18, 1951 in Carlisle, and was
a son of the late James R. Washington, Sr. and Dora (Coleman) Washington. James was a 1969
graduate of Carlisle High School and a 1974 graduate of Penn State University. James was a Captain in the
US Marine Corp. He was a recruiter for the US Marine Corp in Harrisburg and a former State Farm Agent.
James retired in February 2017 from Hope Station as the Executive Director. He was a member of the
West Street A.M.E. Zion Church in Carlisle. James was a past Commander of the Marine Corp League and coordinator
for many years for Toys for Tots. He was a past Commander of the Haines- Stackfield American Legion Post
#826, Sons of the American Legion Squadron #826 and was recipient of many awards. He is survived by
his loving wife, Roxanne Washington, one son, James R. Washington III, one daughter, Jocelynn M. Washington, one sister, Janet
L. Bell, all of Carlisle, five grandchildren; Alexis Spence, Lyndsai Spence, James R. Washington IV, Dayoven Washington, Joshua
Washington and many nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by one sister, Jeanne E. Washington. A viewing will begin
at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630
S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev. Vernol Hazel officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial
Gardens, Carlisle, with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard. www.Since 1853.com.
