William Lee “Billy” Planken, 38, of Carlisle, passed away after a long battle with complications from Hodgkin Lymphoma on Friday, April 21, 2017 in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center.  He was born on March 19, 1979 in Carlisle, and is the son of William E. and Glenda P. (Shambaugh) Planken.

Billy was a 1998 graduate of Big Spring High School, Newville and had worked at the Food Lion and the former Walnut Bottom Road Nell’s Store, both of Carlisle.  In his early twenties, Billy was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma and fought courageously against all the complications until his passing.  He loved being online and playing electronic games.  Billy loved to go car shows and show off his truck, which one year won top honors in the Pre-1980 Domestic 4 X 2 truck competition.  Billy loved all his pets and received great comfort from holding them.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Tracy L Planken and her companion, Jesse Beichler of Carlisle, one niece, Megan L. Beichler and two aunts; Pauline Planken of Grantville and Penny Jumper of Mt. Holly Springs.

A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Walt Frankenberry officiating.  Burial will be in Opossum Hill Union Church Cemetery, Carlisle.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.  www.Since1853.com.
