Betty Carole Shamro, 82, of Carlisle passed away
in the comfort of her home on March 18, 2017. Born March 1, 1935 in the Carlisle Hospital, she was the daughter of the late
William L. Johns and Thelma (Ashenfelter) Johns. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Shamro.
She was the middle
child. She is predeceased by her older brother Bill Johns, who also died of lung cancer and her son Joseph W. Shamro.
She is survived by
her daughter Lisa Shamro, of Harrisburg and her baby sister Nancy Clyde who resides in Incline Village, Nevada.
Betty went to Letort
Elementary and graduated from Carlisle High School in 1952. Betty explored the work world as a young girl as the first papergirl
in Carlisle. She also tried her hand at several local businesses, eventually taking a position at the United Telephone Company.
At a Christmas party at the Bellaire House, she met and eventually married the love of her life in 1956, Joseph A. Shamro,
a handsome State Trooper. She briefly accepted a position with the FBI until giving birth to her first child, a son, Joseph
W. Shamro, who passed in 2007.
In addition to her daughter and sister, she is survived by nieces and nephews.
A graveside service
will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, 1921 Ritner Highway, Carlisle
with Rev. Mira Hewlett officiating. Contributions in Betty's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis TN 38148. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is
in charge of the arrangements.
