Betty Carole Shamro, 82, of Carlisle passed away in the comfort of her home on March 18, 2017. Born March 1, 1935 in the Carlisle Hospital, she was the daughter of the late William L. Johns and Thelma (Ashenfelter) Johns. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Shamro.

She was the middle child. She is predeceased by her older brother Bill Johns, who also died of lung cancer and her son Joseph W. Shamro.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Shamro, of Harrisburg and her baby sister Nancy Clyde who resides in Incline Village, Nevada.

Betty went to Letort Elementary and graduated from Carlisle High School in 1952. Betty explored the work world as a young girl as the first papergirl in Carlisle. She also tried her hand at several local businesses, eventually taking a position at the United Telephone Company. At a Christmas party at the Bellaire House, she met and eventually married the love of her life in 1956, Joseph A. Shamro, a handsome State Trooper. She briefly accepted a position with the FBI until giving birth to her first child, a son, Joseph W. Shamro, who passed in 2007.

In addition to her daughter and sister, she is survived by nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, 1921 Ritner Highway, Carlisle with Rev.
