Geraldine
M. “Gerry” Beecher, 92, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, February, 15, 2017 in the Thornwald Home, Carlisle.
She was born on January 25, 1925 in Harrisburg, and was a daughter of the late Stephen A. and Matilda M. (Steinberg)
Bitner and was the widow of Lynn K. Beecher, who passed away on January 24, 1991. Gerry was a 1942 graduate of the William Penn High School
in Harrisburg. She was a homemaker and had worked from 1964 to 1978 as a cashier with the former Rea &
Derrick Drug Store in Carlisle. Prior to entering Thornwald Home, Gerry was a faithful member of the Hickorytown
United Methodist Church, Carlisle, where she was a member of the choir. She is survived by two daughters; Patricia A. McCoy
and her husband, Richard of Eatonton, GA, Janice L. Sheaffer and her husband, Kirby of Boiling Springs, one son, Dennis K.
Beecher and his wife, Lorraine of Gardners, one brother, Edward C. Bitner of New Jersey, five grandsons, five great-grandchildren
and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Herman Bitner and three sisters; Pauline
Weaver, Elizabeth Shoemaker and Anna Lampkin.
A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 followed by funeral
services at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Jan Hughes officiating.
Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. The family would like to thank the
staff at Thornwald Home for the care and love that was expressed to Gerry during her eight-year stay. www.Since1853.com
