Nathan H. Mooney, 69, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 in the West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg.  He was born on July 14, 1947 in Shippensburg, and was raised by the late Catherine and Robert Hull.

Nathan graduated in 1965 from the former Scotland School for Veteran’s Children and served for four years in the US Army Reserve.  He was formerly employed by Valk Manufacturing, Keen Transport and retired after 15 years of service with Carlisle Mechanical and Welding Services.  He was a member of McClures Gap Church of God, Newville.  Nathan was an avid outdoorsman, participated in the rodeo circuit as a calf roper for 18 years and was a member of the Cutting Horse Association.  Later in life, Nathan raised, competed and judged Border Collie trials.  He was a member and past president of the US Border Collie Association.

He is survived by his devoted wife of more than 49 years, Esther F. (Drawbaugh) Mooney, two loving daughters; Traci L. and her husband, Tom Mohn of Newville and Michele L. and her husband, Troy Getz of Carlisle, two beloved granddaughters; Hannah and Olivia Getz, one brother, Lloyd Mooney of Chambersburg and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents; Lester and Elsie (Shoemaker) Mooney, two brothers; Lester and Richard Mooney and three sisters; Betty Kroh, Carolyn Tudor and Martha Mooney.

A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Bradley Culwell officiating.  Burial will be in Upper Frankford Brick Church Cemetery, Newville.  A time of fellowship will be held at the Bloserville Fire Co. following the graveside service.  Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.  www.Since1853.com.

i met nathan at carlisle mech. welding we would go there when we had projects and needed metal he was always very helpful and he always made your day he was a card he will be deeply missed i will keep you all in my prayers until we meet again rip my friend.
