
Ruth
E. Aikey, 91, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in Thornwald Home, Carlisle. She was
born on June 8, 1925 in Ardsley, PA, and was a daughter of the late Fredrick W. and Ethel S. (Staley) Ployd and was the widow
of Harold E. Aikey, who died on Nov. 5, 2013.
Ruth graduated from the Lincoln Prep School in Philadelphia with the class of 1941,
and earned her bachelor’s degree in 1944 from the former Eastern Bible Institute in Green Lane. She retired from
the former Korvette's Department Store in Camp Hill after 16 years of service. Ruth enjoyed being around
horses and loved her horse “Beauty” very dearly. She is survived by one son, Douglas D. and wife Linda Aikey of Central City,
two daughters; Sandra R. McCann of Monkton, MD and Brenda E. and husband Wayne Trotta of Mechanicsburg, nine grandchildren,
six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Frederick W.
Ployd, Jr. A viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017 followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in the Ewing
Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Mark J. Ruzicka officiating. Burial will
be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. www.Since1853.com
