Sophia
A. Shughart, 92, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle.
She was born on October 20, 1924 in Carlisle, and was a daughter of the late James W. and Margaret P. (Steigelman)
Bohn, and was the widow of Clarence S. Shughart, who died May 31, 1990. Sophia retired from the Carlisle Area School District
after many years of custodial service along with her late husband at the Hamilton Elementary School. She
was a longtime member and former art teacher with Great Hope Baptist Church, Carlisle. Sophia loved her
family and loved doing crafts. She is survived by two sons; James S. (wife, Linda) Shughart and Stanley L. (Mary) Shughart, Sr.,
all of Carlisle, one sister, Joanne Kimmel of Carlisle, one daughter-in-law, Karen Shughart of Carlisle, four grandchildren,
six great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, three step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Robert L. Shughart, Sr., two brothers; Philip and Harvey Bohn and three sisters; Margaret
Nunemacher, Madeline Manfred and Joyce Williams. A viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016 followed by
funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Dale E. Barrick
officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Memorial
