

Robert E. Preston, 91, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday,
October 24, 2016 in Chapel Pointe at Carlisle. He was born on September 8, 1925 in the village of Middlesex,
and was the son of the late Ernest W. and E. Marea (Albright) Preston. Robert graduated in 1943 from Carlisle High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in economics from the University
of Pennsylvania – Wharton School in 1949. Robert was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army
from 1943 – 1945 and held several honors including; one Bronze Service Star, the E.A.M.E. Ribbon and the Presidential
Unit Citation. Robert participated in the Battle of Metz and the Rhineland Campaign with the 95th
Infantry Division. He was the Treasurer of the former Farmers Trust Co. in Carlisle from 1949 – 1984
and retired in 1991 as Secretary/Treasurer of Middlesex Twp. after 29 years of service. He was a faithful
member of Middlesex United Methodist Church, Carlisle where he served in many capacities including; church organist from 1950
to Sept. 2016, recording secretary to church council for over 50 years and as church treasurer for 10 years. Robert
was also a member of AARP Chapter 4377, the 95th Infantry Division Association and the National Chapter of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his devoted wife
of 64 years, Barbara (Watson) Preston, one son, Robert Douglass Preston and his wife Linda of Mechanicsburg, three daughters;
Jeanne P. Grosz and her husband Mark of Mechanicsburg, Judith P. Oatman and her husband Jim Weiss of Shippensburg and Janice
K. and her husband Dr. Allyn Perkins of Carlisle, five grandchildren; Kristin Westrick, Shaun Hardy, Thomas Grosz, Adam Preston
and Erik Preston and four great-granddaughters. He was predeceased by one son-in-law, Harold Oatman. A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016 followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Middlesex
United Methodist Church, 118 N. Middlesex Rd, Carlisle, PA 17013, with Rev. Jan Hughes officiating. Burial
with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in the LeTort Cemetery, Middlesex Twp. Ewing
Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to
Middlesex United Methodist Church.
