Jack M. Sykes, 88, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday,
August 2, 2016 at the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. He was born on April 19, 1928 in Harrisburg, and was
a son of the late William and Dorothy (Moeslein) Sykes. Jack was
an Army veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from the former Shippensburg State Teachers College, and
retired from the Harrisburg School District, where he taught history and math for many years. He was a
member of Riverside Methodist Church, Harrisburg and attended Carlisle First Church of God. Jack volunteered
at the Church of God Home in Carlisle from 1989 to 2015. He is survived
by his longtime friend and companion, Georganna M. Rupp of Carlisle, four nephews; Ed, Mike, Bill and Mark Sykes, two cousins;
Charles and Merl “Skip” Gerdes and one sister-in-law, Miriam Sykes. He was predeceased by one
brother, Edward “Ted” Sykes.
A visitation will
begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of God Home, 801
N. Hanover St, Carlisle, with Chaplain Bradley V. Moore officiating. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle,
