Ralph F. Smyers, 90, of Carlisle, died on Thursday,
March 10, 2016 at Claremont Nursing Home. He was born on March 8, 1926 in Lewistown, and was the son of
the late Ralph E. and Ellen M. (McCarthy) Smyers. Ralph was
a US Navy Armed Guard veteran of WWII and received many honors for his military service, which included the Purple Heart and
five Bronze Stars. He earned his G.E.D. in 1949 from Carlisle High School. Ralph retired
after 30 years of service with the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post
477 and American Legion Post 101, both of Carlisle. He is survived
by one brother-in-law, Leonard C. Cole of Carlisle, niece, Cinda Cole Shannon of Carlisle, one nephew, L. M. Cole of Boiling
Springs and niece, Linda L. Goldinger of Mt. Holly Springs. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Smyers
Cole. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at
10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 in the St. Patrick Shrine Church, 152 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle, with Rev. William
C. Forrey officiating. A viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the
service. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s New Catholic Cemetery, North Middleton Twp. Ewing Brothers
Funeral Home, Carlisle is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial donations in Ralph’s name may be
made for the Bingo Fund at Claremont Nursing Home.
