Carolyn S. Miller, 81, of Newville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January
7, 2016 in Newville. She was born on April 5, 1934 in Newville, a daughter of the late Ray W. and Erma
(Shaffer) Swartz, and was the widow of Dr. Jay S. Miller I, who died November 3, 2009. Carolyn
was a 1952 graduate of Big Spring High School, Newville. She was the office manager for her former husband’s
dental practice in Newville for many years. She was a member of the Oakville United Methodist Church in
Shippensburg. Carolyn was a member of the Minnequa Social Club and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary,
both in Shippensburg. She was an avid dog lover all of her life. She
is survived by three sons; Dr. Jay S. (wife, Denise) Miller II of Newville, Ray C. Miller of Carlisle and Dr. Clay D. (wife,
Rhonda) Miller of Melrose, Mass, one daughter, Kay E. (husband, Steven) Adams of Wyomissing, two sisters; M. Louise Mortensen
of Newville and Doris Joan Ginter of Cherry Hill, NJ, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was predeceased by two brothers, Ray S. Swartz and John C. Swartz and one sister, Donna L. DeVictoria. A private
graveside service will be held at Duncannon Cemetery with Pastor Josh Cartwright officiating. Ewing Brothers
Funeral Home, Carlisle is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society
of Harrisburg Area Inc., 7790 Grayson Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17111.
