
Rita L. Kavolis, 83, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Carlisle
Regional Medical Center. Born on August 12, 1932 in Siauliai, Lithuania, she was the daughter of the late Motiejus and Lydia
(Lavaite) Simanskis and the widow of Vytautas Kavolis, who was professor of Comparative Civilizations and Sociology at Dickinson
College and died in June 1996. Rita attended the Lubeck and Neustadt Lithuanian High
Schools in Germany shortly after World War II and later earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Art Institute of Chicago.
She was a loving mother and homemaker with great culinary creativity, and understanding of natural medicine.
Rita was an accomplished painter, who was particularly fond of etchings, drawing, and oil paintings. She
is survived by two sons; Perkunas J. Kavolis and wife Diana, of Mechanicsburg and Kestutis D. Kavolis and wife Bonnie, of
Etters, one granddaughter, Iliana Kavolis, one sister-in-law, Helma M. Simanskis of Chicago, and several nieces and nephews. A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2015 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the
Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor John Bollten officiating. Burial
will be private in Lithuania. Memorial donations in Rita’s name may be made to Dickinson College
in Carlisle, or to the Central PA Food Bank.
