Rita L. Kavolis, 83, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Born on August 12, 1932 in Siauliai, Lithuania, she was the daughter of the late Motiejus and Lydia (Lavaite) Simanskis and the widow of Vytautas Kavolis, who was professor of Comparative Civilizations and Sociology at Dickinson College and died in June 1996.

Rita attended the Lubeck and Neustadt Lithuanian High Schools in Germany shortly after World War II and later earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Art Institute of Chicago.  She was a loving mother and homemaker with great culinary creativity, and understanding of natural medicine.  Rita was an accomplished painter, who was particularly fond of etchings, drawing, and oil paintings.

She is survived by two sons; Perkunas J. Kavolis and wife Diana, of Mechanicsburg and Kestutis D. Kavolis and wife Bonnie, of Etters, one granddaughter, Iliana Kavolis, one sister-in-law, Helma M. Simanskis of Chicago, and several nieces and nephews.

A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2015 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor John Bollten officiating.  Burial will be private in Lithuania.  Memorial donations in Rita’s name may be made to Dickinson College in Carlisle, or to the Central PA Food Bank.

To my friends, the Kavolis brothers and their families.

It is with sadness that I write this letter in your Mothers passing.

I'm very thankful for the memories we had together as it has been an honor to walk with your Mum and give her assistance in anyway she needed until the time of her passing.

I will miss you Mamyte.
