Mary A. Barzda, 87, formerly of Boiling Springs, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Church of God Home, Carlisle.  She was born on January 3, 1928 in Carlisle, a daughter of the late John A. and Edith (Hoke) Gouse, and was the widow of Joseph J. Barzda, who died in October 1993.

Mary was a Carlisle High School graduate and also graduated from the Bryn Mawr School of Nursing.  She was a Registered Nurse for more than 10 years and had worked at the Bryn Mawr Hospital.  She spent the rest of her life caring for family and treating friends as family.  Mary will be fondly remembered for her wit, intelligence, caring, and open spirit by all who knew her.

She is survived by her brother, Frank Gouse of Hamilton, Montana; two daughters; Ann Barzda of Mount Holly, NJ and Susan Barzda-Ryan of Melbourne, Australia; her grandson and several nieces and nephews.  Mary was predeceased by her brothers; James, John, Harry and William Gouse and her sister, Edith Minnich.

The family will hold a private scattering of her ashes.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106. Please note the donation is in memory of Mary Barzda. Alternatively, if you want to call in your donation, the number is 215.561.2919.

Due to the fact that her family and friends are scattered across the globe, the family is hosting a memorial page on FaceBook rather than a formal memorial service.  Please share your memories at https://www.facebook.com/marybarzda
