Rachel A. Reed, 84, of Carlisle, died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center.  She was born October 13, 1930 in Newville, a daughter of the late Irvin R. and Velva E. (Swartz) Smith.

Rachel was a 1948 graduate of Carlisle High School and had worked as a medical assistant for many years.  She was a member of Tree of Life Church, Carlisle.

She is survived by two sons; Charles A. (Susan) Rankin of Pataskala, OH and Gregory J. (Edith) Rand of Panama City, Panama, one daughter, Katherine L. Barnhill of Carlisle, three sisters; Mary Louise Fitzgerald, Edna M. McKillip and Elsie F. Finkey, all of Carlisle, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by one daughter, Sally L. Uresti, five brothers; John, Robert, Richard, Jackie and Ray Smith and sisters; Fredith M. Wholey and Vera E. Minnich.

A viewing will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 followed by funeral services at 3:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle.  Pastor Dave Herr will officiate.  Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville.  Memorial donations may be made to the Tree of Life Church, 50 “K” St. Carlisle, PA 17013.  www.Since1853.com.
