Martha R. Wilson, 95, of Carlisle, died Thursday,
March 26, 2015 at Thornwald Home, Carlisle. She was born Sept. 3, 1919 in Carlisle, a daughter of the late
John A. and Ella (Schoch) Ruggles and was the widow of Kermit L. Wilson, who died Oct. 10, 1987. Martha graduated from Carlisle High School in 1937 and the former Carlisle Commercial
College in 1939. She retired from Dickinson College, where she worked 23 years as a secretary in the Physics
and Astronomy Department. Martha was a longtime member of First United Church of Christ, the Order of Eastern
Star Old Bellaire Chapter 375 and the Auxiliary to Camp No. 50 SUVCW. Martha was formerly very active in
the Carlisle community and included serving as a Tipstaff for the Cumberland County Courts. She is survived by one son, former Mayor Kirk R. Wilson and his wife, Kathy of Carlisle, one granddaughter, Chelsea
D. Wilson and one great-granddaughter, Cassidy B. Dillon, one brother-in-law, Lester Alvin Kern, of Carlisle, one niece, Cheryl
Carrera and one nephew, Craig Kern. She was predeceased by one sister, Dorothy R. Kern. A viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 followed by funeral services at 1:30 p.m. in the First
United Church of Christ, 30 N. Pitt St., Carlisle. Rev. Chris Schwab will officiate. Interment
will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The Eastern Star will hold a service prior to the
start of the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to her church.
