Virginia Clark Chilton, 100, a lifelong Carlisle resident passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 in the Thornwald Home, Carlisle.  She was born in Carlisle on May 7, 1914.  She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Florence Clark, her husband Robert W. Virginia graduated from Carlisle High School in 1932 and Dickinson College in 1936 where she was president of Chi Omega sorority, a member of Dickinson’s basketball and swim teams. Even while raising five children, she found time to devote to community service including the Garden Club, the Civic Club, Travelers’ Club, and singing in the Allison Methodist Church choir.  She always had a pleasant smile and was kind to everyone. In her older years she struggled with Alzheimer’s disease, yet even that didn’t diminish her smile, pleasant disposition and gentle manners.

She was a devoted wife and mother and was especially interested in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grandchildren include; Amy Leonard (Tom) of Encinitas, CA: Kristin Kane (Ted) of Hopkinton, MA; John F. Chilton IV of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Elizabeth Welchans (Erik) of Airville, PA; James Chilton Jr. (Nancy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Robert  Chilton III (Amanda) of Mt. As per her wishes, a private burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery, Carlisle. A family celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family is thankful for the love and kindness shown to their mother by her many caregivers while at home.
